we have fanciest cultures, creative myths, fantastic religion, figmentative God and other lavish addition to human life which changed/changing/ and will change our trend of living 
. imagine none of those. assume man to be unrecognised with religion and doctrines. assume mankind does not know various teachings and practices. no rituals, no prayers and no special cultural connection with you and God. it is just you, the people around and Almighty himself.

what is that suppose to mean? no religion? then how to get closer to Him? no rituals? then how are we suppose to remember god at all times. i say, on top of religion and religious practices, we in desperate need of self realisation. the process of understanding the inner self to answer most questions of life such as, purpose of life, journey of life and so on.
it is more of a process of knowing what is best for us, knowing right or wrong which is logical to ourselves and understanding things around us from its roots. as such, one will start to see life from different point of view. and that view clears the path of all of your confusion. third-eye, sahasrara, enlightment, moksha, divine touch or what ever you may want to call it, it is the ultimate thing that gets us closer to almighty. magically one does not need tedious practices of rituals, routines of prayers or strict religious teaching to get the self realisation.
how do you self realise? in my opinion, it starts with understanding your weaknesses, accepting your plus points and digesting the fact that you are YOU. we always think others are the greatest, God created others so perfect till it leave a doubt in us:"Why is it always me??" . we need to break that barrier and start to accept oneself as they are which is the hardest part. next, do the same for things, animals, matters, people around you to better understand the world around. after you are ‘undisturbed’ by the earthly emotion or terrestrial feelings, you will start reach yourself to higher level – God. and everything else will fall into its place and start make The Perfect Sense to you.
understanding a matter starts with questions which properly answered by your own logical thinking and not by help of third/second party or religion. why is it so? interruption of different body might distort you logical thinking. in another words, influence you with his/her thinking. and if that happens, self realisation fails at once. so do most religion. religion need to be adored, understood, realised and ‘felt’ to be pious to it. adhering just to the rules and rituals does not make one pious at all.
what that means? to reach the higher being – God, it is not easy. things start with you and ends with you. God will magically resides in your bountiful hearts. –> definition of god is up to your readers discretion
